Why it came, and what it costs
Why it came
When being plainly yourself wasn't enough, or wasn't safe, delight became a defense. A child who could make the adults laugh and glow was a child who couldn't be discarded. Charm was armor you could wear into any room.
What it costs you now
| In love | Partners fall for the shimmer and then can't find what's under it, and neither can you. Being adored while unknown is its own loneliness. The moment a relationship asks for the undazzling self, the pattern wants a new audience. |
