Optionality / Commitment-Avoidance

If I never choose, I never lose the others. The right one will be obvious eventually. Committing now would be settling.
What it's really guarding
Loss, regret, the grief of paths not taken, the exposure of being all-in on something that might fail. Underneath it all, what it protects is real: freedom, potential, protection from regret.
How it shows up
What it is
Keeping every door open and walking through none. Multiple projects, parallel possibilities, relationships kept at maybe. Decisions deferred until they decide themselves. A life rich in options and thin in commitments.
Serving you, or running you
Serving

Genuine range and a gift for seeing possibility.

Running you

The hovering becomes the life, and every door held open is a room never lived in.

Why it came, and what it costs
Why it came
When choosing once meant getting trapped, or when a wrong choice was punished hard, keeping options open became safety. If nothing is committed, nothing can be lost, and no one can hold you to a path that might fail.
What it costs you now
In lovePartners live in permanent audition, sensing the other doors still ajar. Depth requires the very thing the pattern withholds: a closed loop. The half-commitment slowly reads as half-love.
At workFive projects at thirty percent, none at done. Energy scattered across possibilities, momentum forever resetting. The portfolio of options becomes a portfolio of stalls.
In the bodyA hovering, unsettled quality, weight never fully on either foot, eyes scanning the periphery, breath held high in the chest. The body of someone half-out of every chair.
What it becomes
The two states
Clenched

Hovering with wings splayed every way, going nowhere.

Settled

It folds the spare wings and flies one true direction, free for having chosen.

When it settles
Chosen depth. You still see every option and you spend yourself on one, finding the freedom that only exists inside commitment.
Befriend · the smallest move
Close one open loop on purpose; pick, and commit.

Choosing doesn't close my life. It finally starts it.
